WHAT:

After three years of searching for an appropriate location  to construct a skate park in the tri-hamlet area, Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning (WF-Shirley) and Acting Brookhaven Town Supervisor Lori Baldassare will be announcing an inter-municipal project that utilizes funding from Suffolk County and property owned by Brookhaven Town.

WHY: In 2004, Suffolk County appropriated $250,000 to construct a skate park at Suffolk County’s Smith Point Park in Shirley. This location was determined not to be suitable and Legislator Browning has been searching for alternative locations to construct the skate park. Suffolk County does not have additional property that can be utilized; however, Brookhaven Town has a viable parcel directly across from William Floyd High School. This would be ideal for children to access the property, and the William Floyd School District has expressed a desire to locate a skate park near school grounds.
WHERE: 300 Mastic Beach Rd., Mastic Beach, NY 11951.
WHEN: Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 11am.
DIRECTIONS: Take William Floyd Parkway south from Sunrise Highway or the LIE to Roberts Road. Make a left onto Roberts Road and continue until the end, which is Floyd Rd. Make a right onto Floyd Rd. and make an immediate left onto Francis Landau Pl. The YMCA/Brookhaven Town pool will be on your left across from W.F. High School. Park in the adjacent parking lot on your left and proceed to area next to pool.
