From left to right: Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning (WF-Shirley), Lori Green(Chairperson of Women's Advisory Commission), Grace Ioannidis (Suffolk County Office of Women's Services), and Gail Quigg (Appointee from the Third Legislative District). The Suffolk County Women's Advisory Commission had their installation ceremony on January 22, 2008 at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Happauge. Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning was in attendance to introduce her new appointee for the 3rd Legislative District, Gail Quigg, who resides in Shirley. The commission meets for the purpose of: Mission Statement...To explore and identify the needs of the women of Suffolk County; to advise the Suffolk County Office of Women's Services, The County Executive, and the Legislature of those findings; to advocate for appropriate changes in policy and practices to meet those needs; to coordinate and develop resources in both the public and private sectors; to stimulate community awareness and interest in women's issues and in the resources available; and to insure recognition of a response to the needs and accomplishments of Suffolk women. Selected by various branches of Suffolk County government, they have agreed to volunteer their time to be the eyes and ears of all Suffolk County women. |
