Message from
Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory

I was deeply honored to be reelected Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature. I also welcome the return of Second District Legislator Jay Schneiderman as Deputy Presiding Officer.

We at the Legislature had a very successful year in 2014, working together across the aisle and in cooperation with County Executive Steve Bellone.

We held the line on general fund property taxes for the 11th consecutive year, made important steps towards climbing out of the fiscal abyss we had fallen into and we approved numerous projects that will provide critical jobs for Suffolk residents. Financial stability and job creation remain two of my primary goals.

We also took important steps last year to make Suffolk County government even more transparent. Capital Budget Working Group meetings were for the first time open to the public. We began live-streaming of our legislative meetings, an effort that will expand this year.

I promise Suffolk County residents that we will be fiscally prudent while continuing to provide the critical services they have come to expect and depend on.
