It has been my distinct pleasure to serve as your elected official for the last thirteen years. I have represented the residents of the 14th Legislative District in the Suffolk County Legislature since being elected in 2005. Previously, I served as your Babylon Town Councilman for six years. I am honored to have been chosen to serve as the Legislature’s Deputy Presiding Officer for the second consecutive year.

As your voice in County government, I continue to focus on providing a balanced budget, stabilizing taxes and safeguarding our environment.

As you are aware, residents in our district have been catastrophically impacted by Super Storm Sandy. I am proud to say I have experienced first-hand the resiliency of our residents as well as the generosity and the selfless acts that have been displayed by so many since October 29th. Grass roots efforts miraculously assembled volunteers who continue to provide relief months later to hundreds of residents in need. To each and every volunteer, I extend my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude.
As a life-long resident of the 14th District, I continue to fight everyday to protect the character of our community and preserve our quality of life. I shared my concerns with you regarding burning waste at the Southwest Sewer Plant at Bergen Point and I vowed to continue the fight against incineration at this site. I am proud to inform you I successfully passed legislation which permanently bans incineration at this facility. I also sponsored a bill that prohibits the acceptance of wastewater produced by hydraulic fracturing “Fracking” at all county sewer treatment plants.
As a member of the Legislature, I am proud to have sponsored legislation which is the first in the nation to ban the sale of drop-side cribs, established the LI First working group to promote Long Island businesses, formed the LIPA Oversight Committee to determine if LIPA is working in the best interest of ratepayers; directed the placement of plastic bag recycling bins in retail stores; enacted the Toxin Free Toddlers and Babies Act, banned the sale of aerosol dusting products to minors as well as legislation to honor our deceased veterans by prohibiting demonstrations at funeral services for veterans in our county.
In 2013 I continue to work tirelessly on all issues of community concern and I invite you to become part of our team. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your concerns. |
