Suffolk County Legislator Rob Calarco, who was elected to office in November 2011, has already defined himself within the 7th Legislative District as an energetic leader who will deliver solutions to the communities he serves.

Rob grew up in Auburn, New York. As the middle son of a first-generation Italian-American employed as a firefighter and a stay-at-home mom who helped support her family as a seamstress, he learned early the values of hard work and respect for all people.

Inspired by his father, who served 34 years in the Auburn Fire Department and who lead the effort to unionize the department, and by his grandfather who, as Superintendent of the County Parks Department, helped to lead the restoration of a major county park on Owasco Lake, Rob comes to public service naturally.

Rob relocated to Long Island to attend Dowling College in Oakdale where he worked his way through school and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He earned his Master’s Degree from SUNY Stony Brook in Public Administration. Since then, Rob has spent over ten years working in county government and to date has helped to deliver a number of projects within the 7th Legislative District, including:

  • East Main Street re-development in Patchogue
  • Medford Memorial Park hamlet green and its summer concert series
  • ArtSpace in Patchogue Village
  • Annual Play for Peace Soccer Tournaments in Patchogue and Medford
  • Canaan Lake remediation in North Patchogue

But this is only the beginning. Rob is currently leading the effort to repurpose the old Blue Point Laundry property; find an adequate location and funding sources for the Carnegie Library in Patchogue Village; create a business district for Gordon Heights and future economic development along the Bellport Montauk Highway corridor; create a Traffic Violations Bureau; ensure police have the resources necessary to fight crime; and craft a regional approach for job creation.

Rob is a member of three legislative committees: chair of the newly organized Government Operations, Personnel, Housing and Consumer Protection Committee; vice-chair of the Public Safety Committee; and the Ways and Means Committee.

He lives with his wife, Laura, in Patchogue Village where he looks forward to raising a family, being a productive member of his home community, and carrying on his family’s tradition of public service for the residents of the 7th Legislative District.
