Legislator Tom Muratore worked as a dedicated law enforcement professional for 35 years committed to the safety and protection of Suffolk County residents. As Vice President of the Suffolk County PBA for 19 years, Legislator Muratore was actively involved with the TWA Flight 800 disaster management and emergency response operation, as well as the 9/11 World Trade Center cleanup. Prior to being elected to the PBA, Legislator Muratore served as a Patrol Officer and a senior instructor at the Suffolk County Police Academy.

Importantly, Legislator Muratore is involved in a variety of political, civic and community service activities and organizations where he has had the unique opportunity to apply his experience and expertise to support important social causes in Suffolk County. He is a member of the West Brookhaven Lake Republican Club, the Rotary of Ronkonkoma and is an active Republican Committeeman for the 13th Election District.  Legislator Muratore is a member of the Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Association, the Centereach and Selden Civic, the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce, the Andrea Doria Lodge Sons of Italy in Selden, a 4th Degree Knight with the Heart of the Island Council of the Knights of Columbus in Selden, and a Hospitality Minister with St. Joseph’s Church in Ronkonkoma. Legislator Muratore also serves as a Board Member of both the Suffolk County American Red Cross, as well as the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County.

In 2006, Legislator Muratore was honored with the “Community Service Award of Excellence” by Suffolk County Community College, and was honored as “Man of the Year” for the Suffolk County Police Holy Name Society.  Legislator Muratore has also been selected as the Suffolk County Girl Scouts’ Honoree for 2007. Legislator Muratore has also been inducted into the New York Institute of Technology’s (NYIT) Honor Society, Nu Upsilon Tau, and named as an honoree in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” Tom graduated cum laude from NYIT in May 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies.

Legislator Muratore is also a business owner in the community as owner/operator of Mariposa Pool Service, which he cofounded in 1990. Though born and raised in Central Islip, Tom and his wife, the former Linda Nocco, have been married for 44 years and residents of Ronkonkoma for over 40 years.

Legislator Muratore was elected to his first term as a Suffolk County Legislator in 2009.  He serves the 4th Legislative District which includes the communities of Selden, Centereach, the Brookhaven Town portion of Ronkonkoma and parts of Farmingville, Coram, Holbrook, Lake Ronkonkoma, Lake Grove, Medford and Port Jefferson Station.  

Some of Legislator Muratore’s top legislative priorities include investigating how to eliminate the Special Sales Tax on Home Heating Fuels and the elimination of the Sales Tax on Clothing and Footwear Purchases under $110.00.  Legislator Muratore is also reviewing how to reduce the County’s $80 million Outside Consultants’ Budget and to increase Legislative Oversight on the millions of dollars that are spent on change orders.
