The Office of Legislative Counsel provides advice and counsel to the County Legislature and its 18 members. The office assists legislators in drafting local laws and resolutions; advises the Presiding Officer and all legislators on procedural matters interprets legislative rules during general meetings and committee meeting; issues legal opinions at the request of legislators; and drafts all legislative contracts.
Counsel to the Legislature George Nolan
Suffolk County Legislature Counsel George Nolan was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1987. He has extensive experience in Suffolk County government having served as a legislative aide, County Legislator, Assistant County Attorney and Chief of the Municipal Law Bureau in the Department of Law prior to becoming counsel in 2006. He also worked as an in-house defense counsel to several insurance companies for more than a decade.
