JURISDICTION

This Committee has jurisdiction and oversight over all programs, policies, funds, grants, and initiatives dealing with the stimulus, growth, management, revitalization, or development of the Long Island economy, as well as Suffolk County’s Downtown Revitalization Program, cultural affairs issues, and jurisdiction over the County Department of Economic Development and Workforce Housing, except for matters pertaining to workforce and affordable housing. 

This Committee shall also review and consider all legislation on matters pertaining to KeySpan  or LIPA; oversee implementation of the County LIPA Oversight Statute; provide oversight over the PSC and the NRC, FERC applications made by the County of Suffolk or the Suffolk County Electrical Agency, over LIPA actions, activities, litigation and regulatory proceedings, oversight over the actions and activities of the Suffolk County Electrical Agency;  provide oversight of litigation involving the Broadwater LNG Project, oversight of all BNL issues, and remediation efforts at the site, and related studies.  Review and consider all legislation affecting solar energy, cogeneration, windmills, and other alternative sources of energy, excluding alternative energy sources for the County Fleet.

This Committee shall also have jurisdiction over leases and management of the Suffolk County Francis S. Gabreski Airport.

This Committee shall also have jurisdiction over Local Development Corporations and Empire Zone matters.

This Committee shall have jurisdiction over the entire  Community College, including, but not limited to, its capital budget projects; the College Budget; College Collective Bargaining Agreements; and issues affecting or pertaining to public or private schools, including the financing thereof.

This Committee shall also consider and vote on any appointment to a Board,  Commission, Department, Agency, Authority, Task Force, or comparable entity under the jurisdiction of this Committee as well as any outside consultant which may be authorized by this Committee.
